- Do you know every tool that loads the warehouse, such as SSIS, DataStage or custom scripts?
Who depends on it
- Is there a list of every report and dashboard, with an owner?
- Do you know which applications read from the warehouse directly?
- Is there a named business owner for each data domain?
- Are refresh times and availability targets written down?
Proving it matches
- Have you agreed what "the numbers match" means?
- Are there reference reports that can serve as acceptance tests?
- Can the old platform and Databricks run side by side for a period?
- Do you know who signs off a cutover?
Platform and governance
- Is your Databricks account and cloud network in place?
- Is single sign-on connected, with groups?
- Is there an access model for Unity Catalog that says who sees what?
- Have you listed the rules that apply, such as data residency, HIPAA or SOX?
Timing and budget
- Do you know when the legacy licence or hardware contract renews?
- Is there a target date driven by that renewal?
- Is budget approved for the assessment, the migration or both?
- Is there a team that will run the platform after cutover?
How to read your score. Mostly ticked: you are ready for a priced wave plan. Many left open: that is normal, and it is what the 2 to 4 week assessment answers.
